Inside the FSPD - Employment Opportunities - Police Officer

Police Officer           Starting Hourly Wage $17.42
The Fort Smith Police Department - Patrol Officer Applications for Police Officer are generally released one time a year or as deemed necessary by departmental need. All applicants are notified of the date, time, and location of the Physical Agility Test and Civil Service Written Exam on an informational page within the application packet. An intensive background investigation will be completed on those applicants who pass those two initial tests. The remaining applicants that clear the background phase are then scheduled for a Police Review Board / Oral Interview and a Civil Service Board / Oral Interview. A minimum score of 70% is required on the Civil Service Written Exam, Police Review Board / Oral Interview, and Civil Service Board / Oral Interview, and applicants must pass each test before proceeding to the next. All three tests are scored and their combined scores determine the applicant’s final placement on the hiring list, which remains valid for one year. Officers are hired from that list as openings occur. In addition, officers selected for hire will complete a medical physical with drug screen, psychological test and polygraph.
