Applications for Cadet positions are available from the Department of Human Resources for the City of Fort Smith, located at 623
Garrison Avenue on the third floor of the Stephens Building. All applications will receive a complete review and potential candidates will
be scheduled for an oral interview and computer based applicant screening test. An intensive background investigation will be completed on
those applicants that are selected to move forward in the process. Those applicants selected for hire will complete a medical physical with
drug screen, psychological test and polygraph. For further details contact the Recruiting Coordinator

The Cadet, under the supervision of the Patrol Operations Captain, assists with any tasks that need to be completed within the Police Department. The Cadet
assists in areas that will free someone else to take care of a more important or critical task.
- Organize case files for any detective who may request assistance.
- Take police vehicles for service, washing or repairs.
- Deliver packets to the Board of Directors every Friday.
- Fill in at the Information Desk.
- Go to Pawn Shops every week to download pawn shop records to disks.
- Run errands for other employees who need assistance.
- Help Data Entry type incident reports as needed.

High School diploma or GED is required.
The Cadet must be able to perform all of the duties and functions as defined in the job description for the City of Fort Smith. He/She must have excellent communications
skills in both oral and written forms. Organizational skills and close attention to details are required to successfully perform this job. The Cadet must have thorough
operational knowledge of the use of a personal computer system, as well as various software packages.
