The Fort Smith Police Department Reserve Officer Unit has a venerable history from which many outstanding and honorable members have distinguished themselves as
valuable partners to full-time police officers and the citizens we proudly serve. FSPD Reserve Officers currently assist the police department on a volunteer
basis and supplement officers in the patrol division by handling a variety of tasks and services. Plans are under way to afford Reserve Officers with expertise
in law enforcement disciplines beyond patrol, the opportunity to assist other divisions within the department.
Reserve Officers receive training comparable
to that of a full-time officer. They attend all mandatory in-service training and qualify two times each year with their department-issued firearm. Reserve
Officers are required to work a minimum of twenty (20) hours per quarter in order to remain a reserve in good standing. The Fort Smith Police Department
provides Reserve Officers with uniforms and all the equipment necessary to perform their assigned duties. Reserve officers are often counted upon to
compliment full time police officers by providing additional manpower at special events, parades and many other civic activities.
Persons wishing to apply for the Fort Smith Police Department's Reserve Officer Program must first complete an application. Click here to download an application.

Smith, Van Buren, or Fort Chaffee. Successful completion of the auxiliary course is required to be selected as a Reserve Officer and begin serving
