BEAT Health: Quality of Life and Nuisance Abatement

“Quality of Life” Issues and Criminal Nuisance Abatement
The Fort Smith Police Department - Animal Control The BEAT Health Unit is located in the Historic Belle Grove District at 412 North D Street, Fort Smith, AR. They specialize in “Quality of Life” issues and criminal nuisance abatement.

The BEAT Health Unit was started in mid 2011. It is comprised of Officer Trex Smith and Corporal Chris Boyd Jr. Their primary assignment is to identify high crime rate properties within the city and deal with them using a third party policing approach, as well as conventional policing methods. This approach takes other offices within the city such as the fire marshal, code enforcement, neighborhood services, and plumbing inspectors to work together to solve criminal and quality of life issues that affect our city neighborhoods. Officer Smith and Corporal Boyd mainly focus on criminal issues such as prostitution, drug sales, criminal trespass, or disorderly conduct which can create these “Quality of Life” issues. This unit serves the entire city and can be reached by calling the Fort Smith Police Department non-emergency phone line at 479-709-5100 or through Sgt. Don Cobb at 479-709-5038.
