Starting Salary $34,507.20
Applications for Police Officer are generally released one time a year or as deemed necessary by departmental need. All applicants will be scheduled
for the Physical Agility Test and Civil Service Written Exam. An intensive background investigation will be completed on those applicants that pass
the two initial tests. The remaining applicants that clear the background phase move on to a Police Review Board / Oral Interview and a Civil Service
Board / Oral Interview. All phases of the process are pass/fail except for the Civil Service Written Exam and the Civil Service Review Board. These
two steps are scored. The combined score determines the applicant’s final placement on the hiring list and that list remains valid for one year. Officers
are hired from that list as openings occur. In addition, officers selected for hire will complete a medical physical with drug screen, psychological
test and polygraph. For further details contact the Recruiting Coordinator for the Fort Smith Police
